Effective Fire Service Agencies are a matter of people and performance.  In today’s increasingly challenging operating environment, selection, training and appraisal of all members becomes even more critical to success.  Since 1980, EB Jacobs has been working with fire service agencies across the country to develop their public safety professionals through human resource initiatives.  We have worked with fire service personnel at all levels of the organization up to Chief.

In our entry level selection processes we measure thinking skills, motivation and other personal workstyles that impact performance through the use of EB Jacobs’ Fire Service Assessment Battery.  We further measure a candidate’s capacity to perform the physical demands of the job through our physical tests and standards.  Candidates’ verbal and reasoning skills are assessed through our broad array of oral exercises.  We build selection systems that enhance the prediction of on-the-job performance, while minimizing adverse impact -- all in a way that fits into your existing procedures.

In our promotional testing processes we measure the full range of candidate capabilities from technical expertise through the use of Technical Knowledge Tests, to interactive skills and analytical abilities through the use of Oral and Written Work Samples, to personal characteristics through Career Review Boards.  We build promotional tests that allow you to obtain a complete understanding of the qualities of your promotion candidates, while minimizing adverse impact, and in a way that provides meaningful feedback to each candidate.

Our systems are developed in accordance with the guidelines, principles, and laws governing fair employment practices.  We are fully versed in every aspect of employee selection including the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1991, as well as all relevant professional guidelines in this area.
